World Book Day took place on Thursday, 6th March. Our theme was ‘Book an Adventure’. Throughout the day, all of the children took part in activities around all things adventure: new starts and new beginnings, be brave, exploration stories, adventures and maps. We absolute loved the costumes this year- really being creative with the theme. Thank you for all of your efforts in collaboration of this. The costume parade was brilliant fun!

We celebrated the 40th anniversary of Comic Relief in full style and comfort! With our theme of ‘Wear what makes you happy’ the children, and staff, wore everything from pajamas to football kits, and from superhero outfits, to sparkle and sequins. Thank you if you donated, we raised £86.01. Throughout the day, the children took part in a sport-athon, led by the Year 5s and the Sports Leaders, and kept us all laughing with a variety of jokes, the best ones shared in assembly! You can read some of those that were shared in assembly here: Nam (Y4) The student had no idea so the teacher said "when you get home today, ask your family and you need to remember it for tomorrow" So he gets home and asks his mum, she however, is on the phone with someone and isn't listening and just says "SHUT UP" Annoyed, the child asks his Dad, who is watching darts on TV sees the score and shouts "180 million!!" He then decides to ask his brother if he knows, bu...

The Big Acorns, as part of their science this term, have been looking at how to take care of animals, especially their pets. As part of their topic, they have had a visit from Wendy Stone, who rescues hedgehogs and talked to the children, about how she takes care of them. They also had a visit from Ali and her therapy dog called Tailey. The children loved meeting Tailey and finding out about her. They asked lots of questions and enjoyed giving Tailey lots of strokes and cuddles.

The Year 5/6 football team are half way through competing in the Exeter Primary Football League, at St Peter's school. The children have shown great resilience and heart in what is, a very competitive league. The team has played some really great football and it has been noticed by other coaches at how well they have played and represented the school. We cannot wait for the next round of fixtures. Thank you to the parents supporting with this, it has been a great help!

On Thursday 30th January, Mrs Todd and Miss White took 14 members of the choir to the Young Voices concert at the NEC in Birmingham. It was a long day (returning to school at 1.30am) but my word it was worth it! The children were incredible, their singing and enthusiasm were of the highest quality and they, as always, made us very proud. We were joined for the first time by the choir from Stokeinteignhead and made some new friendships. The experience was that of an arena rock concert, a special event with big memories.

On Friday 7 th March, one of our USF schools St Mary’s hosted an assembly run by the Kind Campaign. This assembly was designed for girls; Kind Campaign is an internationally recognised non-profit organisation that brings awareness and healing to the negative and lasting effects of the conflict and aggression that can exist within girl relationships. Miss White and Mrs Phillips took our year 6 girls and our female MHA. They have now started to work with Mrs Phillips to incorporate this message within our already established role as Mental Health Ambassadors, spreading the word about the importance of kind words and actions and supporting other girls to do the same. If you would like to know more about the organisation’s mission statement or any more information, please take a look at their website https://www.kindcampaign.com/about/
